What is Sedentary Society and Characteristics of Sedentary Society
Ø Traits of a sedentary society:
Permanent settlement: People in this culture are rooted in a single location permanently. They build their homes and reside in towns, cities, and villages.
Transfer of ancestral land: It is possible to find agricultural and residential properties that have been passed down through families. There is also the idea of private land and home ownership.
Stratified social change: Social change can be observed, but it happens very slowly and in different ways in different places. Some regions have more development and a higher rate of change than other regions.
Subculture is present: This kind of civilization is multicultural. There are countless additional local cultures and subcultures with unique identities.
Presence of tribal group: Tribal people who have lived permanently on their land for millennia, such as the “Muree” and Kutchi tribes, are also a part of this society.
Low geographic mobility:There is very little geographic mobility. People are emotionally bonded to the place because they once lived there.
Social reforms: In this society, the government and the authorities are in charge of enforcing social reforms. People respond negatively to these reforms and attempt to live independently.
Ethnocentrism: This group exhibits a high level of ethnocentrism and is constantly prepared to help one another in an emergency.
Less social change: Due to the sluggish speed of social change occurring in this culture, issues like social deviance and crime are present but are relatively small in nature.
